Books Promoting Inclusion And Friendship

Here at Alpha Prep Academy, we are passionate about effecting positive change in the lives of our children and the community-at-large. We also strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment, and part of that includes providing inclusive practices inside the classroom. The week leading up to Valentine’s Day is DECAL’s Inclusive Early Learning Week, a campaign to promote inclusive practices within early learning environments across Georgia. To help generate awareness for inclusive practices in the classroom, we are sharing a list of books promoting friendship and inclusion for you to snuggle and read with your kiddos.

Kindness Makes Us Strong by Sophie Beer: This book celebrates acts of kindness big and small, and how it helps build friendship and community.

Happy In Our Skin by Frank Manushkin: This book celebrates the splendid rainbow of skin shades, and how it protects you; as well as how wonderful it is to be just who you are.

The Colors of Us by Karen Katz: This book celebrates the differences and similarities that connect all people through the eyes of a little girl.

It’s OK To Be Different by Sharon Purtill: This book celebrates individuality through understanding and self-confidence, as it’s never too early to develop self-esteem.

All Are Welcome Here by Alexander Penfold: This book celebrates diversity and inclusion in a school community where families of all kinds connect and share their traditions.

Same, Same But Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw: This book celebrates diversity through two pen pals who are oceans apart. And though their worlds look different, they are similar.
